Bigger and flatter than Edinburgh, built for music, galleries and food rather than postcards. It works well as a day trip or as a two-night base.

Local rhythm

Galleries 10:00–17:00 and free to enter. Live music starts late — most gigs at 20:00 or later.

The Subway circles the centre in 24 minutes. Trains from Edinburgh arrive at Queen Street, in the middle of everything.

Kelvingrove and the Riverside charge nothing. Budget the money for food and the time for the West End instead.

Merchant City in the morning, West End in the afternoon. Mixing them costs you 20 minutes of Subway each way.

Edinburgh services thin out after 23:00 and stop earlier on Sundays. Note the time before the gig, not after.
